Mommy's Nose

Bram is starting to learn some body parts. The only thing is that he only really points to OTHER peoples noses or mouths or whatever. And he mostly grabs MY finger and makes ME point to it.

Signing

We've been signing with Bram for about four or five months and he has yet to sign back. I think he recognizes some of the signs but he refuses to do it himself. Same with clapping or waving. He would rather grab our hands and clap them. He uses his hands for eating, playing, or picking things up but he'd rather not use them for something that's not extremely useful (at least in his opinion, anyway). I joined a Yahoo group for parents of signing babies and I've got a bit of help there. I know he'll sign eventually, but I'm getting impatient. O_o

Second year, Third Blog

I have officially given up on Bram's older blogs. Xanga is too full of freaks and the baby blog is super hard to edit. And the HTML on it never does what you want it to do.

Anyway, in other news, Bram will be having major surgery on his hips and feet on May 31. They will be lengthening his heel cords and they will try to get his hips where they belong. And when they put his hips in the right place, it should put his muscles in a better position, making his muscles more capable of supporting his legs. Apparently, one's muscles don't work very well if the fibers aren't pointed at the right angle. So in the long run, he should have way better muscle tone. His physical therapist, Karen, says she expects to have him walking by the time he is two. Most likely with a walker, but walking none the less.

We will probably also be starting an early intervention program soon. The therapists come to your house and everything. That way, he can be in occupational therapy and speech therapy while he's in the body cast (which he'll be in for eight weeks after the surgery).
